Modern Lighting, Made in Brooklyn

  • At Research.Lighting, we design modern light fixtures that settle into a space with ease. Pieces that feel intentional without feeling precious. Practical, yes. But also a little poetic. We think about proportion, rhythm, and how light moves across a room at different times of day. We think of our work as functional sculptures.

Everything we make starts in Brooklyn, where our studio designs and assembles each fixture in house. Our forms are simple on purpose. Pendants that float instead of drop. Wall lights that sit comfortably, holding their ground without demanding attention. Steel, glass, and brass come together with restraint, leaving space for light, shadow, proportion, and reflection to do the heavy lifting.

We work with interior designers, architects, and homeowners who care about how a room feels once the noise settles. People looking for fixtures that feel resolved, while also being pretty to look at. Lighting that anchors a dining table, softens a hallway, or quietly frames a bedroom without overthinking it.

To us, modern is not about stripping everything away. It is about knowing what matters and stopping there. A clear idea. A focus. A nice moment Light that knows when to speak softly - and when to dance and shout.

  • What does “modern” mean to you, really?
It means clarity. Clean forms, thoughtful proportions, and nothing extra fighting for attention. Our fixtures are modern because they feel current and intentional, not because they follow trends. They are designed to age well, visually and emotionally. Nice proportions and thoughtful material choices always holds up.

Where are your light fixtures made?
Everything is designed and assembled in our Brooklyn studio. Keeping production close lets us stay hands on with the details and make sure each piece feels right before it leaves. It also means we know exactly what we are putting out into the world.

Are your fixtures made to order?
Yes. Most pieces are made to order and everything is assembled in house. It gives us control over quality and keeps things intentional. Lead times vary by fixture, so product pages are always the best place to check specifics before ordering.

What kinds of light fixtures do you offer?
We design pendants, chandeliers, wall sconces, flush mounts, floor lamps, and ceiling lights. Different forms, same philosophy. Each piece is pared back, proportioned carefully, and designed to live comfortably in a space.

Do your fixtures work in both homes and commercial projects?
Absolutely. Our lights show up in apartments, restaurants, offices, and hospitality spaces all the time. They are calm enough for daily life and confident enough to hold larger rooms. If you are working on a bigger project, we are always open to a conversation.

    Are your lights dimmable?
They are. All of our fixtures are dimmable with compatible bulbs and dimmer switches. Dimming changes everything, the mood, the pace, the way a room feels. We are big fans.

Do the fixtures come with bulbs?
Yes, bulbs are included so you can install and enjoy right away. If you want specifics, bulb details are listed on each product page. No guesswork required.

What materials do you typically use?
We primarily work with steel, glass, and brass. Materials chosen for durability, clarity, and how they interact with light. Finishes vary by fixture and are always noted clearly on the product page.

How do I know which fixture is right for my space?
Start with feeling, then scale. Do you want something bright and open, or softer and more atmospheric? From there, consider size, ceiling height, and placement. If you get stuck, we are always happy to help you think it through.

Are your fixtures good for small spaces?
Very much so. Many of our designs are compact and intentional, which makes them great for hallways, bathrooms, and smaller rooms. They bring presence without crowding the space.

    Are your fixtures UL listed?
All of our hardwired fixtures are UL listed and meet safety standards. We handle the technical side so you do not have to worry about it. That part should be easy.

    Do you offer customization?
Sometimes. Depending on the fixture and the request, custom options may be possible. Reach out and let us know what you are thinking. We like thoughtful conversations.

    What does installation look like?
Installation depends on the fixture, but everything is designed for standard electrical setups. We recommend using a licensed electrician for best results. A smooth install makes a big difference.

    Who is Research.Lighting for?
People who notice the small things. People who care about how a room feels once everything settles. If you like lighting that feels calm, considered, and quietly confident, you are probably in the right place.

    Still have questions?
Reach out anytime. We are happy to talk through sizing, placement, lead times, or anything else you are wondering about. Lighting should feel exciting, not intimidating.
